With disappointing handphone sales in their last quarter, the discouraged GPS company decided to part ways with Asus because their phones just didn’t sell. After going solo, people were wondering who would be next to partner up with the GPS giant. It seems that the answer has been decided- nobody will be partnering Garmin to make smartphones because Garmin has decided to leave the smartphone business. Clearly a case of running away while they still can, Garmin have decided to cut their losses and continue focusing on other areas that they are good at- standalone GPS devices and aviation and maritime equipment. But with smartphones replacing the need for standalone GPS devices, Garmin has got to find a way to fight back by providing features that can’t be used on smartphones or completely embrace it by developing Garmin GPS apps on multiple operating systems.
