Foursquare encourages voting

Social check-in apps are all the rage now. One of the major players in the scene is Foursquare, with over 4 million users worldwide, it can no longer be ignored. Election day starts today, and Foursquare have decided to encourage its users to vote by giving all voters a special limited edition “I voted” badge. All users have to do is check-in at one of the voting locations and include #ivoted in their shout out to instantly unlock the “I voted” badge. The purpose of the badge is to encourage civic participation- it is your right and your duty to vote, hopefully this small symbol can give you that bit of motivation if you’ve been procrastinating. It is also to increase transparency for elections- by no means it will be an accurate judgement of how many people voted (not everybody uses Foursquare..yet) but it can give a rough estimate of how many voters there were in an area. So if you’re on Foursquare and you haven’t cast your vote yet, you should do so now to earn your “I voted” badge before the elections are over! Head over to the Foursquare election page for more details.
