According to a statement from RIM, they believe that their still-unresolved issue about BlackBerry Messenger service privacy with the Indian government can be successfully resolved. RIM is confident about the outcome due to the way they’ve been successfully handling BBM security and privacy issues in other countries. After the Mumbai attacks two years ago, India had threatened to cut off access to RIM’s encrypted email and BBM services in the country if they weren’t allowed access to them due to national security. It’s been quite some time since the threat was issued, and the problem still hasn’t been solved yet; with RIM constantly extending deadlines. I wonder what’s up RIM’s sleeves, and how will they plan to work out this problem- they seem to be stalling for something after all, and losing a highly populated country like India would be a huge blow to the smartphone manufacturer that has been suffering losses due to the rise of alternative mobile platforms. How do you think this will play out?
