According to MacRumors.com, Apple might be offering a free MobileMe service to some users when the iOS 4.2 update comes around. They recently took at peek at the source code for iOS 4.2.1 GM and found some interesting lines of code that refer to the creation of a free MobileMe account. The code refers to alerts that include lines such as: “The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this iPhone.”, “This iPod touch is not qualified for free MobileMe service.”, “The identity of this iPad could not be validated.” Looks like Apple is cooking up something interesting with the free version of MobileMe.
