Text Your Car To Stop Theft

Worried about getting your car back after it’s been stolen? Well, soon you might be able to text your car to stop the thieves from getting away with it. If the system works as promised, all you’ll have to do is send a text and it’ll be passed on to your car and cause it to shut down. The notification causes the car’s internal computers (which are supposedly not modified) to think that the car is overheating, causing the car to run on half the cylinders, going at around 30km/h, after which the car will be shut down. After that, the onboard GPS unit will text you back the location of your car, so you can go pick it up (preferably with the authorities). The prototype currently costs $600, but if it works well enough, we’re fairly sure they’ll be able to mass produce it for significantly less.
