Nokia 6216 Supports NFC

Nokia has just announced its latest device to sport Near Field Communications (NFC), which is a really interesting technology. The device, the 6216 classic, will be Nokia’s third device to support NFC, and it’s Nokia’s first to allow operators to build NFC services into the SIM card. NFC allows devices to transfer data between each other merely by tapping them together, which would be really handy if implemented as a mobile wallet in the future. Aside from the NFC feature, the 6216 is a fairly basic S40 handset, sporting quad-band GSM, dual-band 3G (850/2100MHz), 2-inch QVGA display, 2-megapixel camera, microSDHC support, and Bluetooth. The device should be shipping in Q3 2009, and will retail for €150 ($196) before subsidies, though you probably wouldn’t want to hold your breath before its available stateside.
