iPhone 2.2 Locking Legally Unlocked Phones

Published

on

Here’s a rather weird scenario. Legally unlocked iPhones are rather rare, as it’s only available in places like Hong Kong and some parts of Europe, though now it looks like it’s going to become even more elusive. Some iPhone 3G users who own unlocked devices are having an issue of the phone becoming locked again after updating to the latest 2.2 firmware in another country. One user bought his phone in Hong Kong, and updated the firmware in Germany, and after that, the phone was locked. This doesn’t seem to be a widespread issue, as there aren’t that many (legally) unlocked iPhones going around at the moment, but it’s probably something that Apple will want to look into.
