Cell phones are becoming more and more important in our lives, and it looks like another step has been taken in terms of cell phone achievements. Some scientists at UCLA have managed to mod a cell phone to detect HIV, malaria and some other illness’, which would make it a handy medical tool if you’re planning on going to some remote part of the planet where carrying heavy medical equipment is a big no-no. Dr. Aydogan Ozcan was able to image thousands of blood cells by placing them on a normal camera sensor and lighting them with a filtered light source. After that, the cells will be interpreted by the custom software for a diagnosis which should be available within minutes, handy isn’t it?
