FCC Approves Of Verizon Alltel Purchase

A 5-0 vote has resulted in the FCC approving Verizon Wireless’ $28 billion purchase of Alltel. This will be good news for Verizon, as it’ll be getting what it wanted. The approval will require Verizon Wireless to end operations in five small markets neighboring those already required by the Justice Department. Aside from that, Verizon Wireless is also required to honor Alltel’s existing roaming agreements with small wireless carriers for you years. It certainly looks like this purchase comes with a little baggage, but we’re fairly sure that Verizon will be happy to become the largest wireless carrier in the US.
