Qualcomm Loses Patent Fight

It looks like we’ll finally (and hopefully) be seeing the end of the legal wrangling between Broadcom and Qualcomm. Qualcomm was accused of infringing upon some of Broadcom’s patents, which covered video compression, EV-DO, and QChat Push-to-Talk technology. While the judge deemed that the first patent was invalid, the remaining two patents were upheld, and it was ruled that Qualcomm had infringed upon them. Broadcom will certainly be happy with this ruling, as Qualcomm will be forced to pay licensing fees, not to mention that the court also rejected Qualcomm’s request for an appeal.
