Google Location Aware Search

Google has announced that it has added an automatic localized search function into their search page for smartphones running on Windows Mobile. It will use the same cell tower information that Google Maps uses to provide local results for search queries. In order for users to reap the benefits of this new service, they’ll have to click on the “My Location” link under the search box, and Google Gears will need to be installed on the device. The rest should be rather obvious, as Google will take note of your rough location and apply that information together with the search queries. They also stress that your location information will not be associated with your personal information in any way, even if you’re logged into your Google account, which will be great news for people who are suspicious about Google’s privacy policy.
