Qualcomm Fined For Ignoring Injunction
Ignoring an injunction might be a way to earn you a couple of extra bucks, but you can only get away with it for so long. Last year Qualcomm was banned from selling some 3G chips that were deemed to have infringed on Broadcom’s patents, but they obviously ignored the warning, resulting in the judge finding the company in contempt of violating the injunction, and ordered it to pay the gross profits from sales of its QChat push-to-talk tech to Broadcom. Qualcom were given 30 days to find out how much they need to pay, and seeing that Sprint has paid over $93 million to use said technology since last Dembember, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be pocket money. Qualcomm has said that it’ll comply, though it’s planning on appealing the order too.
