HTC Devices Get Third Party 3D Boost

While video performance may not currently be HTC’s strong point, especially since the company doesn’t seem very interested to release outright hardware-accelerated binaries to fully support the unutilized ATI Imageon circuitry, citing technical issues. As a result, users have been complaining of unsatisfactory video playback performance. While there isn’t any good news on the 2D side, the 3D side is another matter entirely. HTCClassAction.org has just released binaries and sample videos that show improved 3D performance on a HTC device, which can be attributed to Direct3D and OpenGL ES acceleration. While it isn’t the 2D improvement that everybody is craving for, it’s still progress in the right direction.
