O2 Fires Staff For Selling iPhones Purchased Under Staff Pricing On eBay

UK Operator, O2 has sacked at least 6 staff for selling their iPhones which were purchased under staff price on eBay. It’s understand that the employees in question, which were all based on retail stores in London bought noticeable quantities of the handsets with a 20% staff discount, which obviously is what brought it to the attention of the O2 head office. A further 20 employees are being investigated.

It seems that O2 took an additional 1,400 new workers to cope with the demand for the iPhone when it was launched last year. Many UK retailers have had limits imposed on them by the network operators as to how many handsets an individual customer can purchase at one transaction in order to prevent subsidized PrePay phones being sold off overseas before they have generated the revenues to find the subsidy.

O2 has confirmed the dismissals and pledged to continue to take action against any further abusers of the staff privilege.
