Nokia Promises Solution To N-Gage Game Lock-In

A few days ago, it was discovered that Nokia’s N-Gage games are locked to a device’s IMEI number, rather than a specific account. This would mean that if the user upgraded their phone, they would have to buy their entire game catalog again.

Amidst the public anger, word has come out that Nokia is addressing the situation immediately, and in the short term, Nokia Care will be able to take care of IMEI changes for N-Gage users with new devices. Apparently a long term solution which will automate the system is already in the works. Even though this really shouldn’t have been a problem in the first place, kudos to Nokia for admitting their problems and working out a solution or workaround for it. This is very impressive response time.
