Reports have surfaced that some firms are using a new generation of voice analysis systems to check whether employees are lying when they call in sick. This method lets employees phone in and speak to a computer set up to check whether their voice is steady and reliable.

Studies estimate that nearly one in eight sick days are not genuine, which costs the UK economy £13 billion ($2.5 billion) a year.
