UK researchers use camera phone as 3D mouse
Wireless technology has been the means to many new ways of interfacing with your PC. Everything from gesture-controlled web cams to the Wiimote has been used in some form to control your desktop. UK researchers are playing around with a new breed of interface which allows users to control their desktop using a camera phone.
The prototype software allows for users to “move and manipulate onscreen items simply by waving a handset around in front of a [display].” And while the technology does show some potential, and a future for a phone-centric 3D mouse isn’t out of the realm of possibility, we wouldn’t throw away our wireless mouse just yet.
