A recently revealed patent from Nokia, which was filed back in June 2007, reveals a new Touch interface which confirms the S60 Touch’s competitive edge to the Apple iPhone. It seems that Nokia plans to patent a whole new interface that goes well beyond simple touch methods.

The patent reveals plans on integrating not only single and multi-touch technology, but also a wide range of gesture-based controls. Nokia plans to use Ultrasonic Transducers (USTs), set around the perimeter of the device, which would create a 3D gesture touchless interface. So pretty much, you’ll simply point to somthing on the screen, and be able to control it without even laying a finger on the device.
