Japan's KDDI, Willcom beat out NTT DoCoMo in WiMax race
Japan’s KDDI and Willcom networks have won license rights to provide high-speed wireless Internet access to their customers. Both companies had been competing with NTT DoCoMo and Softbank for WiMax licenses, and today announced that they have obtained the go ahead. Both firms plan to have integrated WiMax capabilities up and operating by 2009.
Compared to WiFi, which only provides service in close proximity to a network point, WiMax can provide high-speed internet even when users are in their cars or traveling by train.
