First ever newspaper-branded cellphone

Dagens Nyheter, Sweden’s biggest daily newspaper, has captured the title of “first newspaper to have a branded cellphone”. The handset is actually a modified Nokia 6120 3G phone with a special “DN” button that offers instant access to the newspapers website. Useful or not, the service has reportedly thrown up a bunch of buzz in Sweden.

The idea of a news-branded phone is surprisingly a popular one. A Dagens Nyheter representative said “After we announced the launch … we received so many calls that our switchboard broke down. There’s a lot of interest out there.” Do we see a New York Times phone on the horizon?
