Continental Airlines trials paperless ticket using phone

With technology making paper communications a thing of the past, another source of paper usage might be made obsolete by your mobile device. Continental Airlines is trying out a new paperless boarding pass system.

Users will be issued a barcode image for their mobile phone which can be scanned at the gate for ID verification. The purchase of boarding will be made completely electronically. Continental will be running the trial for 3 months. If things go well we might be seeing paperless boarding used on a more permanent basis.
