Sprint and Clearwire call off WiMAX talks

After failing to reach an agreement on a plan to make a nationwide WiMAX (a longer-range version of WiFi) network, Sprint and Clearwire have called off talks on the joint high-speed mobile internet project. Back in July the two companies had signed a letter of intent, purposing plans to work together on a WiMAX network, which was originally planned to be worked out in 60 days. With the departure of Sprint’s CEO Gary Forsee last month, forming a pact has become too much much for the two companies to manage at this time. It is unclear at this time whether the two companies will give it another go at some point. Both Sprint and Clearwire are the only two companies known to be seeking out WiMAX joint ventures.
