Ofcom rules for faster contract transfers

UK mobile regulator Ofcom has announced a new set of rules that will make it easier for users to switch mobile phone providers. Currently, it takes users up to a few days to transfer their phone numbers and such, until the new service is finally up and running.

The new rules means that these wait times will be shaved down to a total of about two hours. Ofcom initially wanted to change the standard transfer time to two days, down from the old five days, but decided to take it even a step further to help make customers lives easier. If mobile companies are worried about not having enough time to implement such a system, don’t worry. The rule doesn’t have to be fully implemented until September 1, 2009. And something tells us mobile companies aren’t going to be rushing to implement the new rule…
