For those of you living “down under” and curious on when the iPhone might be headed your way, Apple has been looking for a suitable network provider. A report this morning claims that Apple is in talks with Australia’s Telstra mobile network, which has reportedly begun testing the iPhone on their service. Telstra CEO Sol Trujillo confirmed these rumors to Sydney’s Daily Telegraph news publication, but says that the deal is not yet signed and that no final decisions have been made. In order to operate with Telstra, Apple would have to produce a phone that can utilize the networks Next G 850 MHz frequency, which needs specialized handsets to function correctly. If the iPhone does in fact land a deal with Telstra, you can expect an iPhone release next year when Apple plans to broaden the phones user base.
