FCC tells Sprint Nextel to shape up or else

The FCC has issued a stern warning to Sprint Nextel, threatening to shut down certain parts of their network if they don’t do something about a serious safety concern with their service. Reports state that over 2,200 public safety related companies have cited problems with Sprint Nextel’s network, many of which run on the same frequency bands as the public safety groups use. $1 billion later and an upcoming deadline closing in, Sprint has yet to have been able to fix the problem, claiming the issue “has proved more difficult” than anticipated. If the FCC follows through on their threats, as many as 20 million Nextel and Boost Mobile customers might be unable to make calls if the frequency bands are not fixed in time.
