Nokia, as well as other cellular companies, are working on a new internet service that could provide cellphone users with internet speeds of 100Mbps (in theory…). Long-Term Evolution, or LTE, has been tested with mobile users both at their homes and on-the-go, and both have had great success. An ideal LTE set-up could lead to 100Mbps downloads and 50Mbps uploads, outperforming the speedy WiMAX by up to 10 fold. LTE would offer speeds that current broadband services offer for PC users. Tests have also been conducted by Nokia competitors LG and Samsung, as well as oversea carriers such as China Mobile, Orange, Vodafone, and Japan’s NTT DoCoMo. Both AT&T and Verizon have shown interest in a 4G network to replace the current EVDO and HSPA networks. LTE isn’t projected to hit the public until around 2010
