Sony, KDDI to share media

Sony and KDDI have reached an agreement that will allow media to be shared between Sony portable and home-use music players and KDDI mobile devices. Starting in December, the service will be enabled through free software upgrades, and is reportedly targeted at competing with Apple and their iTunes service in the next generation of the mobile media digital music market.

The joint venture -should- benefits both companies, allowing Sony access to KDDI users (KDDI being the second largest network in Japan), while providing the KDDI customers with access to Sony’s ample media collection, which will certainly lead to them buying more music.
