Rumors have emerged that Google is planning on revealing its first mobile OS as soon as two weeks from now. Sources say that the rumored open-source OS would probably tie together all of Google’s core applications, such as Gmail, Google Calender, and Google Maps. Instead of blocking third-party applications, a Google mobile OS would most likely encourage outside development. Most companies look at third-party developers at competition, rather than partners in crime. HTC and LG are also said to be in talks to develop hardware for the mobile OS to run on their devices. The announcement might be imminent, but don’t expect to see the OS on a device until at least mid-2008.
