3 Skypephone goes official, Nov. 2 release. Free in the UK

In mid-October, Skype announced that they would be launching a VoIP-enabled cellphone with UK mobile network 3. Today, Skype has released an official announcement about the 3 Skypephone which will be available to 3’s customers starting November 2nd. The Skype service will allow UK users to make free Skype-to-Skype VoIP calls through WiFi networks, and free instant messages through the Skype network. This is the first time a company with so many users has enabled a mobile phone that can use internet telephony. Any of Skype’s 246 million users can be reached using the 3 Skypephone.
