Alltel adds search to handsets

Looks like search is big business, as Alltel has recently installed a dedicated search application and button to all its handsets. Pressing this button will run a BREW-based client that features a search box, enabling users to look up information, service, and its ilk. The search results comprise of information from both on and off the Alltel device, including raw organic links, targeted paid search links, and ads. The LG 8600 will be first “beneficiary” of this function, with other handsets receiving the same key in the coming months. Is such a function really necessary?
