FCC approves BenQ-Siemens AF51
The almighty FCC certainly took its time in giving the BenQ-Siemens AF51 handset its nod, so hopefully we will be able to see it arrive at store shelves soon. The AF51 is pretty much an entry-level cellphone, equipped with mundane features such as a 65k color display, MMS support, GPRS connectivity, and an integrated WAP/XHTML browser. You might raise an eyebrow when you realize the AF51 does not come with an integrated camera, neither does it have MP3 playback capability. This probably means the AF51 uses polyphonic ringtones which are so 2000. You can pick up the BenQ-Siemens AF51 in Panther Black and Dolphin Grey when it is released.

BenQ to release Android tablets
Yes, you read it right – another manufacturer has decided to foray into the world of Android tablets. This time, it’s none other than BenQ. The Taiwanese electronics manufacturer has announced that they will be releasing a new Android tablet in Taiwan, China and possibly the rest of the world. The BenQ R100 tablet is slated for a Q1 2011 release and will probably be revealed at CES 2011 or MWC 2011. The Android tablet will pack a 10.1″ (1024 x 600) LCD touchscreen, an 833MHz Samsung ARM-based CPU, 8GB of internal storage, WiFi, an SD card slot, mini HDMI, mini USB and a 3.5 mm audio jack. Judging from the specs, it looks like it’s not going to be a high-end offering, seeing how it’s lacking in the dual-core/storage department. The tablet looks like it’s just going to be another face in the crowd, your thoughts?

BenQ Royal Smartphone Wins Design Award
You might not be too familiar with BenQ’s mobile phones, but one of the phones that was recently showcased by the Taiwanese company has reportedly won the iF Product Design Award 2009. The BenQ Royal, as it’s called, is a candybar phone, but has a touch-sensitive area behind the main screen (supposedly the back-cover) which allows users to turn the pages of an ebook or browse photos and music files with ease. There isn’t too much technical information on this phone yet, but we do know that the Royal will have a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus.
