Cellphones with 5.1 surround sound

So, cellphones these days come with integrated stereo speakers to keep you entertained during long commutes, but do they really need to pump out audio in anything more than stereo sound? Apparently, the good folks at NTT DoCoMo think so, as they are currently developing a prototype handset that supports digital radio in 5.1 channel surround sound. This news is bound to excite those who watch TV over their DMB-enabled handsets, but for people who live in areas without DMB networks, having 5.1 channel surround sound is as redundant as taking off one’s pants to fart. These prototypes are currently on exhibition at CEATAC 2006.
