Samsung scooped up the acclaimed Gold Award by the Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) for the company’s cellphone that the blind can use. The Touch Messenger features a Braille touch pad that comes with two 3 x 2 Braille characters that enables one to send text messages to another, while the display below features fourteen 3 x 2 characters that can be read by the user. The Braille system was invented by Louis Braille and has benefited countless millions since 1821, but advances in voice activation technology could kill it off eventually. Viva la Braille!
