SMS users to get taxed?

Most people would agree that taxes are more often than not exorbitant and a legal for of daylight robbery, but they are crucial in keeping the government machinery well oiled. As a result, there have been taxes for anything and everything since its inception. Reuters reports that European Union lawmakers are currently mulling over a proposed tax on e-mails and SMSes as a means of funding for the 25-member bloc. This move does not make sense as e-mails and SMSes are taxed indirectly across Europe via VAT. I guess the EU is tempted to levy a tax on a product with alleged product margins of at least 90%.
