According to a new medical study, teenagers who spend plenty of time with their cellphones may suffer from depression, anxiety, or both. Statistics show that 40% of youths in the U.S. between the ages 8 and 18 own a cellphone and spend an average of an hour a day on them. It is said that the amount of time spent on the cellphone is used to vent their teenage angst and thus that does not make them depressed, as others speculate that those who are really anxious and depressed will withdraw from society and not send text messages nor make calls. Whatever the outcome, parents play an important in monitoring their teenagers’ behavior to detect early signs of depression.
